HISTORICAL AND POLITICAL HERITAGE OF THE BRITISH AND RUSSIAN EMPIRE IN THE XIX CENTURY: THE INDIAN VECTOR AND MODERN TREATMENT
Abstract
Modern historical science has focused on the geopolitical aspect of the study of international relations, specific to each specific political context.
The position of Russia as a Eurasian power has always been reflected in its foreign policy interests, the study of its contacts has accumulated rich traditions in Russian historical literature.
Britain, as the largest empire in the history of mankind, over which, as the British liked to say, “the sun never sets” actually ruled the world for several centuries.
Original archival materials, published sources and historiographic materials testify that the phenomenon of the “Russian threat” to India influenced the formation and development of the doctrine and foreign policy strategy of the Russian Empire in the late 18th – early 20th centuries.
