Means of Forming the Speech Image of a Political Leader
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to identify the features of the political rhetoric of a statesman during public speeches at various domestic meetings and international summits. The article analyzes stylistic expressive means, mainly metaphorical nominations, on the example of the reports of the 46th US President Joe Biden, in order to create a linguistic portrait of a political figure, to identify universal and unique (national) features of diplomatic discourse. The analysis showed that the metaphorical reinterpretation of the lexemes represents national values of the United States: democracy, freedom, equality, unity of the nation, respect for human rights and the right to vote, national security, the fight against discrimination and others. The political leader uses a variety of metaphors in order to influence the audience, protect and promote the interests of his country, at the same time continuing the traditions of American diplomatic discourse.
