Migration processes in the countries of Northern Europe: problems and challenges for state policy

Abstract

This article examines the specifics of migration processes in the Nordic countries, identifies problems and challenges for the policy of states as a consequence of the migration crisis. The first section of this article analyzes the specifics of migration processes in Sweden, Norway, Denmark. The result of this section is the conclusion that, indeed, for the period from 2016 to 2019, Sweden, Norway and Denmark found themselves in a situation of a serious migration crisis, and new challenges and problems arose for the policies of these states. In the next section, it was possible to identify the problems that turned out to be a consequence of the migration crisis, and also to consider the attempts to stabilize the migration crisis, which were resorted to by the governments of the studied countries. The findings allow us to conclude that the tightening of domestic legislation in relation to migrants is not enough, the governments of the states should resort to the transformation of migration legislation and focus on international cooperation within the framework of the Nordic Council and the EU. On the basis of the obtained conclusions, further research can be carried out and used in writing the FQP.
