The phenomenon of migration as a factor of conflict between migrants and “old settlers”

Abstract

This article deals with the problem of migration, during which interethnic conflicts arise. The author analyzes the causes of conflicts, the speed of adaptation of migrants to the new way of life and the conditions for their acceptance by the indigenous inhabitants ("old settlers"). The dependence of migrants' adaptation on the degree of differences and peculiarities of cultures is presented. The concept of "culture shock", which is characterized by a tense state in migrants and which is an integral part of adaptation, is described. Migration legislation, as well as international covenants and declarations, help to cope with the difficulties of migration. The ways of resolving interethnic conflicts are revealed. Through legal mechanisms (securing the priority of human rights and freedoms regardless of their ethnicity), negotiations (compromise and consensus), and the information path (knowledge about someone else's culture), it is possible not only to resolve the conflict, but also to prevent its occurrence. It describes the process of "dialogue of cultures", in which the basis is cooperation-bilateral efforts to identify common goals and solve common problems.
